Schematic Representation of the Laparoscopy Learning Modules

L1. Basic Laparoscopy
The basic laparoscopy module is primarily aimed at residents to provide them with the necessary laparoscopy knowledge and psychomotor skills to enter the operating room. It will prepare doctors for the
laparoscopy part of the official level 1 certification of GESEA.

Type: Hybrid (online and on-site)

Applicable to: Specialist Professionals

L2. Intermediate Laparoscopy
The intermediate laparoscopy module is aimed at residents to provide them with the necessary laparoscopy knowledge and psychomotor skills to start basic procedures in the operating room.
Furthermore, it serves as a skill test for established surgeons to gain access to the GESEA Educational Programme. It will prepare doctors for the laparoscopy part of the official level 2 certification of GESEA.

Type: Hybrid (online and on-site)

Applicable to: Specialist Professionals

L3. MIGS Clinical Attachment
The Minimal Invasive Gynaecological Surgeon (MIGS) Clinical Attachment is a learning module where a surgeon will be stationed in one of our four pilot Fellowship centres to be trained in the surgical procedures of laparoscopy and hysteroscopy in preparation to applying for the MIGS Diploma.

Type: On-site

Applicable to: Specialist Professionals

L4. Advanced Laparoscopy
E-learning module that provides the introduction course to GESEA Level 3. Advanced cases require supplementary knowledge to optimise surgical time and reduce risk of complications. Topics will include advanced suturing competences, ergonomics, dissection rules, retroperitoneal anatomy, bowel anatomy and repair, ureter and bladder repair, difficult scenarios in laparoscopic surgery and complication management.

Type: Online

Applicable to: Specialist Professionals

L5. Laparoscopy for Nurses
This learning module focusses on providing education for nurses that prepare and support the surgeon in the operating room during laparoscopic procedures. Topics will include: anatomy; acceptance, preparation and positioning of patients in the OR; nursing and instrument handling during laparoscopy; laparoscopic procedures; challenges in laparoscopy.

Type: On-site

Applicable to: Nurses

L6. Laparoscopy for equipment operators
Industry plays an important role in supporting the training activities of health-care professionals. This course will teach non-clinical staff how the GESEA Training Tools are to be used with the laparoscopy surgical equipment as made available by industry and how the educational curriculum as offered through GESEA can be correctly leveraged to increase patient wellbeing.

Type: On-site

Applicable to: Non-clinical staff

L7. Laparoscopy for Training Specialists
The Laparoscopy Train-the-Trainer module for Specialists focusses on how to teach the laparoscopy learning modules and GESEA exercises to gynaecological surgeons. It provides instruction on the essential skills needed to get results in the classroom and will teach candidate trainers how to best make the connection between the laparoscopy skill training and the surgical procedures.

Type: On-site

Applicable to: Trainers

L8. Laparoscopy for Training Nurses
The Laparoscopy Train-the-Trainer module for Nurses focusses on how to properly instruct the learning modules to nurses. It will identify the essential components of an effective training session and highlight the role of the nurse during laparoscopic surgery in relation to the offered training methodology.
