Acquire your GESEA ECRES Diploma

Reproductive Endoscopic Surgeons

The GESEA ECRES Pathway allows you to acquire your ESHRE Reproductive Endoscopic Surgeon diploma (ECRES).

Level 1 Certificate
The first step is to get your GESEA Level 1 Certificate proving your general endoscopic knowledge and acquirement of basic endoscopic psychomotor skills to get ready to start training in the Operating Room.

Level 2 ECRES Certificate
The second step is to successfully complete the  GESEA Level 2 ECRES Certificate. This certificate indicates that you have mastered the knowledge and more advanced psychomotor skills as needed to start performing basic endoscopic procedures related to reproductive endoscopic surgery in the Operating Room.

ECRES Diploma
Finally, when you have the necessary surgical experience and related competence, you may apply for the Level 2 ECRES Diploma as issued by ESHRE. The GESEA ECRES Diploma is a video-based expert-reviewed diploma where surgical skills are evaluated by performing a select number of laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures.

GESEA Level 1 Certificate

Your entry point into the Operating Room

Prerequisites for GESEA Level 1 Certification

  • GESEA Level 1 E-Learning Certificate of Completion

    When applying for a level 1 certification, submit your Certificate of Completion together with your application or bring it with you at the certification session.

Knowledge Acquisition
Sign up for the GESEA Level 1 e-learning on ESGE Academy and complete the theoretical tutorials and quizzes of level 1. You will be awarded with a certificate of completion.
Practical Skill Training
Develop your practical skills by exercising with the GESEA Training Tools at your centre, in one of the Accredited GESEA Training or Diploma Centres , or during upcoming GESEA ECRES Events and other national congresses where GESEA is present.
Certification

Take the GESEA Level 1 exam at an accredited GESEA Diploma Centre or during an official GESEA Event. The certification session consists of:


(1) aa theoretical exam, TESTT1*, which contains 50 multiple choice questions on instrumentation, OR organisation, anatomy, different endoscopic techniques and complication management

(2) three practical exams, LASTT1, SUTT1 and HYSTT1.

**Please be aware that not all of the multiple choice questions in TESTT1 are included in the content of the preparatory tutorials on ESGE Academy. TESTT1 also contains additional questions in line with the expected knowledge level for surgeons participating in Level 1 of the GESEA Educational Programme.

GESEA Level 2 ECRES Certificate

Start performing basic endoscopic procedures

Prerequisites for Level 2 GESEA ECRES Certification

  • GESEA Level 1 Certificate

    First acquire the GESEA Level 1 Certificate before you can apply for the next level. Provide your certificate as proof that you have completed the first level upon registration for a second level certification session.

    You can apply for a bypass if you meet the following criteria:

    • Must be over 45 years old
    • Must provide a letter signed by head of department, confirming applicant has experience in major surgeries in both laparoscopy and hysteroscopy
    • Must provide proof of attendance at a recognised suturing workshop

    Note that you still need to complete the GESEA Level 1 e-learning on ESGE Academy.

  • GESEA Level 2 ECRES E-Learning Certificate of Completion

    When applying for a Level 2 ECRES Certification, submit your Certificate of Completion together with your application or bring it with you at the certification session.

Knowledge Acquisition
Complete the theoretical tutorials and quizzes of GESEA Level 2 ECRES e-learning on ESGE Academy and the robot-specific e-learning module.
Practical Skill Training
Develop your practical skills by exercising with the GESEA Training Tools at your centre, in one of the Accredited GESEA Training or Diploma Centres, or during upcoming GESEA ECRES Events and other national congresses where GESEA is present.
Certification
Take the GESEA Level 2 ECRES exam during the upcoming GESEA ECRES Events. The certification session consists of

Validate your surgical competence

Prerequisites for GESEA ECRES Diploma

Surgical Competence

To apply for your GESEA ECRES Diploma:

You have to acquire the necessary surgical competence both in laparoscopy and in hysteroscopy. You must provide your documented testimony of surgical clinical practice curriculum a maximum period of 5 years together with supporting documentation to certification@eshre.eu.
The next step is to submit the schedule via certification@eshre.eu of your first procedure stating the date when you will perform the actual procedure, you cannot use existing recorded video material. There are five different procedures to schedule with a total cost of 500 euro. As soon as you have scheduled your first procedure, you have entered the ECRES Diploma programme.
After you have performed a procedure, you have 48 hours to submit the video of the procedure and the report of the anaesthesiologist via WeTransfer to certification@eshre.eu.

When the ESHRE has received all your recorded procedures, they will be expert-reviewed and rated. Apply now for your GESEA ECRES Diploma through the ESHRE website.
